Picky, Selfish and Bossy

As a child I was taught never to be picky, selfish or bossy.
As I developed spiritually, I recognized these qualities all had value for the work I am here to do.
As I was able to see how the admonitions of parents and religious teachings limit our self realization, I chose to free myself from what is not helpful or supportive for an inspired and truly loving life.
In 1982, I became aware that my salvation and success required me to be picky, selfish and bossy.

Traditional Christian religions and most others as well, encourage followers to be selfless, accepting and of service. I too aspired to be “nice”, helpful and accommodating.  Sound familiar to your psyche?
While facilitating a group process regarding parental programming, I realized that while I was love dand given free choice as a child, the implied teachings were to serve others by being undemanding, compliant, and honestly unselfish.

As a spiritual leader and teacher and CEO of a non-profit service organization, I needed to allow myself to be meticulous in my choices to serve all the people.  I could not serve well by simply conforming to the average or ordinary. I needed to take impeccable care of myself, recognizing that I am a role model for others to follow.  By giving myself the best, I am inspiring others to do the same.  To lead I needed to be confident, determined and provide clarity in my decisions, thus appearing being the boss or leader.

What if those with similar teachings are victimizing ouselves by letting others lead us.
What if by not being selective, we have our integrity with our own values in our world.
What if by not honoring our own needs, we have taught others to neglect and deny themselves.
What if we have ignored the path of moderation where we can live in integrity each moment.

Whenever we make a rule, pass judgment, decide for others, we are interfering with natural learning.
We need to set rules and sometimes break rules to do what is highest and best for all concerned.
Listening to others rules make work when we need the partnership more than our own integrity.
Conforming without consideration for our Truth may be helpful to avoid conflict or disagreement.
But when we get stuck in unconscious habits, we neglect growth and transformation, freedom and trust.

Consider where you are out of integrity with your own values, spiritual wisdom and desire, you may feel upset, unhappy, sick or simply get angry with others non-conformity.
Perhaps now it the time to step out of our outworn ideas and unconscious habits to avoid friction.
Perhaps we can all clear the way to choose again to begin with honoring ourselves and our learning.
Perhaps we can choose in each relationships and situation what is highest and best for all.

With trust in our Higher Self and freedom to choose again,
Betty Lue

Prayer from today’s Unity Daily Word:

Help me walk a path of renewal.
I lift up my old life for purification, confident a new life rises from those ashes.
I release every limitation I believe is true about my worth and power, my beauty and creativity.
I sweep away every debt I believe anyone owes me.
I cast off every condemnation I carry.
I pray with an open heart. releasing limits, wisdom, understanding and peace with grace.
For the gifts of my journey of purification and renewal, I am grateful.

Selfish, Picky and Bossy
from The Tao of Robert 1988

Vision creates life.
Without knowing the self,
Vision is impossible.
Without living the self,
Its clarity is lost.
Without expanding the self to embrace all,
Its expression is limited.
The selfish,
Knowing their Oneness,
Create abundant life.

Vision creates perfection.
Without a clear desire,
Vision is diluted.
Without demanding all,
Its power is diminished.
Without attention to the smallest detail,
Its beauty fades.
The picky,
Knowing the value of perception,
Create perfect life.

Vision creates manifestation.
Without a strong will,
Vision is wasted.
Without responsibility,
Its potential is unexpressed.
Without a willingness to see it through,
Its service is limited.
The leaders,
Willing to demand the best of all,
Create meaningful life.
